Story Behind
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), health is defined as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of diseases and infirmity. Ensuring good health and well-being of all is essential to poverty eradication and achievement of a sustainable development goals adopted to ensure prosperity, end poverty, protect the planet and ensure everyone enjoys peace.
Oral health is an often-over-looked aspect of overall health and well-being and in turn many individuals and communities lack access to basic oral health education and services.
This is also factored by the virtue that dentistry as a field has a little exposure to the public compared to other health sectors. Other factors being lack of education to the public, poverty, geographical location and socio-economic status. Most high school students especially female students lack access to mentorship programs which could lead to them being part of the team to enhance increase of dental practitioners who are committed to transforming the community.
